It wasn’t the Dust Bowl of the 1930’s, but the 30 mphplus winds and dust had a big impact on the final games of the Donnie Elliot Classic last Saturday (April 6) in Granite. Despite getting knocked out of the championship race by Navajo on Friday (April 5), 7-1, Granite bounced back with a 19-9 win over Canute to take third place.

For two and a half quarters, it was anyone’s guess whether Granite or Leedey would win their firstround game in the Class B state championship last Wednesday at the Oklahoma City’s Fairgrounds. Halfway through the third quarter, with Granite trailing 30-28, the size of Leedey’s squad began to make a difference.

Duke boys are in the basketball state tournament for Class B this week for the second time in four years and will try to repeat their state championship from 2020. Granite boys are also playing for the Class B state title after they defeated Wilson in the Area 3 Tournament finals, 71-65.
